Is weight loss “contagious”? According to a new study published online in the journal Obesity, teammates in a team-based weight loss competition significantly influenced each other’s weight loss, suggesting that shedding pounds can have a ripple effect.
“We know that obesity can be socially contagious, but now we know that social networks play a significant role in weight loss as well, particularly team-based weight loss competitions,” said lead author Tricia Leahey, Ph.D., of The Miriam Hospital and Alpert Medical School. “In our study, weight loss clearly clustered within teams, which suggests that teammates influenced each other, perhaps by providing accountability, setting expectations of weight loss, and providing encouragement and support.”

Here’s what Patricia has to say about her Yoli experience thus far:
“So I started the Better Body System for purely selfish reasons. I wanted to be healthier. I was FAT and I was TIRED. I said ‘it’s time for me to do something about this.’ Not that I hadn’t tried, but it always only worked for a little while, and it came back and then some.
I said, ‘I want to it to be natural, I don’t want surgery, I don’t want to put anything harmful or artificial into my body to attain this, (I am too heavy to start a real exercise program and with a past back injury I must be careful) I WANT TO BE HEALTHY AND FIT AGAIN!’
So I searched, and made a decision to dive into the Better Body System: it’s healthy, natural, and there’s no exercise required. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I couldn’t wait to get my kit and get started!
‘This was it, this time my weight loss endeavor was going to work’, I said (like many times before). If you have ever struggled with your weight, you know what I mean. So, is the Better Body System (BBS) going to do what it said? We would see…I ripped open my kit like a kid at Christmas time. I couldn’t wait to get started!
Day 1- Not only was it delicious but I lost I think it was 9 lbs the first week! WHAT! Yeah, 9 lbs! So I was good to go, no hunger pains, tasted great, great meals, my fat stomach is going down and inches are disappearing! This is so awesome! CRAZY! Maybe I am dreaming? Wait no, Marcus (my son) is doing it too and he is losing weight faster than me!
Not only that, he keeps saying how great he feels. Hmmmm, not just me then. Ok, I am soooo excited can’t wait to share this with the world! So here I am on FB, sharing my story in bits and pieces and yes even my pictures: unbelievable, that I would do that!
But you know what, if it helps one person experience the health benefits I have, then it is worth it! So it has been 3 months to the day today! I have taken breaks from the plan for weddings, holidays, parties and was thankful that I could just get back on the plan without having messed anything up.
Today, I have continued to include the BBS in my daily life. I have lost a total of 35 lbs and never felt better. I can play and keep up with my grandbabies now. My kids are happy to see their mom getting healthy again too.
So what started out as something purely selfish is going around now and it’s something that is benefiting my whole family in many ways and many friends and their friends…Hmmmm, maybe I should be more selfish more often, it seems taking care of me has benefited not only me but so many others.
I can’t put a price on what has transpired in my life since starting the Better Body System, the people I have met, the people I have had the privilege of helping, the people I have reconnected with. Wow, what a life, what a journey! I Love it! Thank you God for putting Yoli and the Better Body System in my life. And thank you for giving me the courage to say YES!’”

Eating carbohydrates makes you store belly fat. Eating protein puts on muscle. Most people know that.
But a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that when you over eat on a low protein diet, you store bad fat around your organs including the liver, kidneys and pancreas. But if you eat a high protein diet, you add muscle and increase your resting metabolism and muscle mass. Since muscle burns seven times as many calories as fat, that’s a good thing.
In the study, researchers admitted 25 brave volunteers to a hospital ward for 12 weeks. They controlled everything they ate and did. But they made them all overeat about 1,000 calories a day. The only different was where the calories came from – protein or carbs.
The low protein group (5% protein) lost 1.5 pounds of muscle, and gained 7.5 pounds of fat. The high protein group (25% protein) gained 6.3 pounds of metabolically active muscle. They also gained fat because they were being force fed. But even though they gained more total weight, they were LESS fat than the low protein group.
This has important implications for our thinking about calories.
Bottom line: Not all calories are the same. Some calories make you store fat, while others make you store muscle.

According to Tony Robbins, and many of today’s health experts, we don’t have so much of a weight problem, as an over-acidity one. Reason being is that the vast majority of our Western diet, is highly acidic (see chart below). The body does not know what to do with all of this excess body acidity, so it stores it as fat.
